At present, the production line of high-speed wire rod mill is developing in the direction of single line, continuous, high-speed, torsion-free, micro tension, combined structure, mechanization, and automatic control. The social market constantly puts forward new requirements for the output, coil weight, accuracy and performance of wire rod, which promotes the application of new technology in wire rod mill production line. The types of high-speed wire rod mills include Morgan, Demark, Ashlow, Krupp, Danieli, Mogerxiama, Cox, Sark, Bommini Farrell, and Terman. Among these types, Morgan type 45 ° high speed twisted free wire mill takes the first place,  accounting for about 70.38% of the total, followed by Demark type wire mill.

The core equipment of the wire rolling mill line is Morgan finishing mill and Steelmo control cooling line. The emergence of the new type of high-speed and torsion-free finishing mill and the design and manufacturing of the wire rod rolling mill have caused profound changes. It is a major breakthrough in the development of wire rod mill. It focuses on new achievements in rolling technology and equipment manufacturing. High-speed wire rod mill refers to the wire rod rolling production line with rolling speed of over 50 m / s and an annual production capacity of over 300000 tons.

In the 1960s, the rolling speed of Morgan finishing mill increased from 35 m / s to 50 m / s. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the fourth generation of new rolling mill appeared. At present, the fifth generation Morgan wire rod mill with a rolling speed of 120 m / s has been manufactured. Compared with 1964, the rolling speed increased by 290%. The annual production capacity of an idle single wire rod mill is 300000-400000 tons, while that of a four-wire two roll rolling mill with a turning arrangement can reach 500000 tons. Under the favorable biting condition, the cutting section is increased from 80x80mm to 150x150mm, and the disc weight is increased from 500kg to over 2000kg.
