What is Laying Head?

Laying head is the key equipment of a high-speed wire rod mill production line for wire rod collection.

In the modern wire workshop, top cross 45°non-twisting continuous rolling mill is used, with high rolling speed (up to 100 m/s) and coil weights (up to 2.5 tons).

In order to improve the cooling conditions of the finished product and ensure the quality of the product, a horizontal spinning and cooling process is adopted.

The wire enters the axis of the laying head, tangentially discharges, spits out a spiral vertical coil, which is gradually put onto a continuously moving chain plate (or roller conveyor) conveyor and sent to the coiling machine.

The wire rod was heat treated by forced air cooling during transportation to improve the mechanical properties of the wire. The conveyor terminal coiling machine collects the coils cooled to the collection temperature into rolls, pushes them out with a pusher, and transports them to a wire baler for bundling.

The horizontal wire rod mill laying head is composed of a transmission device, shield, laying head disc, hollow shaft, laying head pipe, bearing seat, motor, bevel gear, pulley, and other components. The layinghead is driven by a motor and drives the hollow shaft to rotate through the meshing of a pair of bevel gears in the gearbox. The spinning tube is installed on the spinning disc, which is connected with the hollow shaft through bolts.
