The Basic Knowledge of Rolling Mill Machine

The composition of the rolling mill machine can be divided into two categories: main equipment and auxiliary equipment.

  1. Main Equipment

As long as the device that directly causes plastic deformation of the rolled product, it is called the main device, also called the host column.

Structure: It consists of working seat, mill roll, bearing, roll adjusting device, guide device and frame, universal joint or plum blossom shaft, gear base, reducer, main joint, main motor and so on.

  1. Auxiliary Equipment

Auxiliary equipment refers to a variety of equipment other than the host column, which is used to complete a series of auxiliary operations.  

There are many kinds of auxiliary equipment. The higher the degree of mechanization of the workshop, the greater the proportion of auxiliary equipment in the total weight of the entire workshop machinery and equipment, sometimes it is 3~4 times the weight of the main equipment.  

Steel rolling belongs to metal pressure processing. In the hot rolling production line, the billet is heated and softened, and is fed into the rolling equipment by the rollers, and finally rolled into the size required by the users. Steel rolling is a continuous and uninterrupted operation. The strip runs fast on the roll track, and the equipment of the rolling mill is highly automated and efficient. Ingot from the open-hearth furnace can also be made into steel plate, but it can be rolled on hot rolling equipment only after heating and blooming. First, phosphorus is removed to blooming, and then roll into finishing rolling equipment. The speed measuring roll and flying shear are installed in front of the machine, and the head of plate surface is cut off. After hot rolling, the rail thickness is usually several millimeters. If the steel plate is required to be thinner, it must pass through the cold rolling mill equipment.

Take the two-roll rolling mill with simple structure and wide application for example, which is representative. It can be divided into reversible and irreversible forms. The former includes blooming mill, rail beam mill, plate mill and so on. Irreversible rolling mills include billet continuous rolling mill, laminated sheet rolling mill, sheet or strip cold rolling mill, temper mill, etc.

The largest two-high mill in the early 1980s had a diameter of 1500 mm and a length of 3500 mm. The rolling speed ranged from 3 to 7 m/s. The billet from the steelmaking plant is only a semi-finished product. It must be rolled in the rolling equipment before it can become a qualified product. The continuous casting slab sent from the steelmaking plant first enters the heating furnace, and then after repeated rolling by blooming equipment, enters the finishing rolling mill.
